Mallow Gears Up For a Bright Christmas

And so it begins in earnest. Halloween now a memory so the Christmas fever starts to simmer.

December 1st kindly falls on a Saturday and kicks off the festive season with Mallow Chamber of Commerce hosting their ‘Christmas Lights Festival’ on our town streets. There will be music & festivities from 12 noon, building up to Santa’s arrival at 3.30pm and the ‘switching on of the lights’ at 4.30pm. I hear Santa will be travelling in noisy style this year on a fire engine and may even have a few gifts for the better-behaved boys and girls!

Mallow Chamber intend keeping the festive spirit throughout December with on-street entertainment being planned for each Saturday plus a few other surprises in store so stay tuned. They also wish to remind us of the ‘Mallow Gift Card’ available to buy in denominations of €15-or-more at Katie’s Newsagents, and accepted by over 60 shops locally. Keep your business in town and your town in business!

Also funded by Cork County Council, they too are playing their part by providing extra free-parking arrangements for the month of December. Effective from Dec 1st to Jan 2nd inclusive there will be 1 hour free parking on all street parking and 3 hours free parking in all Council Car Parks. The current arrangements of free parking (Mon to Fri) from 5pm to 10am remain in place, and the free parking (with time restrictions) from Friday 1pm through Sat & Sun also stay the same.

Mallow Rotary will again erect their Memorial Christmas Tree in St. Mary’s Church grounds, where you can purchase bulbs in memory of a loved one and support a local charity in the process. And Santa’s mailbox shouldn’t be too far away either where the little-ones can post their ‘ransom- demands’ and maybe even enter a selfie-competition too.

So, let the cheery month begin in a bright and uplifting mood across Mallow town and we at Mallow Development Partnership wish you a safe and happy December as the Christmas fever intensifies.
